Console notifications
The browser console can tell you when an agent needs you, through your browser’s own notifications. They are off until you turn them on, and the choice is kept in this browser only: another browser, another device or a private window starts with them off.
Turn them on
Choose Notify in the console’s top bar. Under Agent notifications, pick one:
- Off, the default;
- When something needs me: an agent needs your answer (a permission request, a question, or sign-in or a key), or it has an error;
- Also when an agent finishes: the same, and each time an agent is done.
The first time you pick one, your browser asks whether KeepState may show notifications. Say Allow. A notification names the agent and its session; clicking it brings the console tab forward at that agent.
Notifications come only while a KeepState console tab is open. The console says nothing on its first reading, and nothing for a state it has already seen.
How to allow them
When your browser blocks notifications from KeepState, the menu says so and links here. Allow them for this site, then reload the console:
- Chrome and Edge: click the icon to the left of the address, open Site settings, and set Notifications to Allow.
- Firefox: click the icon to the left of the address, and remove the block on Send notifications, or allow it.
- Safari on a Mac: open Safari, Settings, Websites, Notifications, and set this site to Allow.
Your computer may also hold notifications back. On a Mac, check System Settings, Notifications, for your browser; on Windows, Settings, System, Notifications.
A browser that cannot show notifications at all gets the menu line “This browser cannot show notifications.” The rest of the console works the same without them.
The same without the browser
The console’s Your agents rail and its needs-you count show the same
states while the tab is open (agents).
In a terminal, ks agent list --all --watch --notify notifies you there
instead.
