Before you start
KeepState runs your agents on durable machines in the KeepState cloud, with
your own model key, from one terminal app: you give an agent work, it asks
before it acts, it keeps working when you leave, and its results wait for you
to review and apply. Plain sessions run any program you start, and Cruise
runs bounded coding tasks against repository checks you approve. What is
available today, and what is not, is on What can I use
today; the service also states it at
GET https://ctl.keepstate.ai/api/v2/capabilities.
What you need
- An account. Signup is instant: $10.00 of credit, no card. The free tier runs one session at a time; forking a session needs a paid plan.
- The ks client on macOS or Linux, on arm64 or amd64 (install). The installer refuses anything else rather than install a binary it cannot verify. The machines, their checkpoints and their results live in the KeepState cloud; there is nothing else to build.
- Your own provider key. An agent session calls Anthropic with your key, and you pay model costs to your provider. Where KeepState’s key is offered you can choose it instead, paid from credit you have bought. How to add your key: keys. KeepState’s session and storage charges, and whether its key is offered today, are on the pricing page.
- Outbound HTTPS to
ctl.keepstate.ai. Nothing listens on your machine. - No production secrets in a first session. Treat it as a public place until you have read how sessions run.
If you only want to see it first, the demo page has recorded walkthroughs; no install and no account.
